Vespa 180 Rally
With the Rally 180 (VSD1T), the new flagship in the Vespa program was presented to the public in 1968. As can easily be seen from the frame abbreviation, this is a continuation of the great tradition of the Gran Sport and Super Sport models
After the success of the Vespa Super Sport 180, Piaggio puts the new 180cc vehicle on the market with a completely new mechanics and frame, which derive from the Vespa Sprint of 1966, with some aesthetical changes to the handlebar, storage box and saddle. The Vespa Rally 180 is still one of the most functional and best looking vehicles. Its production began in 1968 and ended in 1973, with a total of 26,000 vehicles built.
The Vespas of the Rally series arrived at a very delicate moment in the history of Italy, and not only as regards the world of two wheels. Thanks to the excellent performance, the notable operating economy, the ease of use and, above all, the great prestige that they quickly gained among the public of scooter enthusiasts, they laid the foundations of a success that still lasts today, so it is true that the Vespa Rally, 180 and 200 are currently among the most sought after by collectors.
The Vespa 180 Rally was presented in 1968, in a very troubled political moment for Italy (but also for Europe in general), yet it managed to attract the attention of users thanks to the well-chosen blend of good qualities that distinguished it, so to be essentially considered the "moral" heir of the Vespa 150 GS, a model from the mid-1950s that has remained legendary for its excellent qualities.
